Writers Workshop Enrollment & Manuscripts
All applications must be postmarked no later than May 14, 2010. Between 75-80 participants will be accepted. Notification of acceptance will take place on or after June 1, 2010. Please submit your best work in one genre only and be sure to indicate what that genre is on the application form. Limit your manuscript submission to the following number of pages:
Novel, Memoir or Nonfiction (30 or less)
Short Story or Poetry (20 or less)
Children's Writing (15 or less)
All manuscripts should be double-spaced, using one-inch margins, 12-point type and no unusual fonts.
Send two copies of your manuscript if submiting in the Novel, Short Story or Poetry. One should have your name on it and the second one should be a blind copy. If there are too many manuscript submissions in any of these genres, the blind copy will be read and ranked by an outside reader. Once the rankings are received you will be notified if you have been accepted or placed on the waiting list. Please do not ask where you are ranked.

Writers Workshop Fees & Housing
The cost for attending the Appalachian Writers workshop is $600 ($300 tuition; $300 room and board).
Campus housing consists of dormitory and cottage-style housing. There are no single occupancy rooms. Two, and on very rare occasions, three people will share a room. Because most housing is on hillsides, please indicate if you are unable to walk up steep inclines. All buildings are smoke-free and air conditioned. No pets, firearms, drugs or alcohol are permitted. Participants must furnish their own towels and washclothes.
For those making their own off-campus housing arrangements, tuition is $300 and meals may be purchased at the Settlement School dining hall: Breakfast $8.00, Lunch $8.00 and Dinner $12.00.
Quiltmaker Inn Housing
The Inn, located in downtown Hindman, is a three-minute walk from campus. It has a limited number of rooms with basic furnishings: one double bed, TV and air conditioning. The Inn is not handicap accessible.
Cost for a private room with private bath is $700 (1 person) and $1,300 (2 people), including tuition and meals.
A private room with shared bath (shared with an adjoining room) is $650 (1 person) and $1,250 (2 people), including tuition and meals. Guests will need to furnish their own towels and washcloths.
