Beth Garner, NSDAR Schools Chair; Sharon Withers, Kentucky State Regent; Nancy Hampton, KSDAR Schools Chair and Mike Mullins celebrate the launch of the KSDAR “Gift of Reading” Endowment at Hindman Settlement School

The poster reads: “If you want to change a life, teach a child to read…If you want to change the world, teach every child to read.” The poster was designed to explain the purpose of a new project, unveiled by the Kentucky Society DAR at the 112th KSDAR State Conference in April. State Regent Sharon Withers proudly announced that the KSDAR “Gift of Reading” Endowment will soon be established at Hindman Settlement School with a gift of $10,000, raised by Kentucky Daughters at the conference. The fund, developed in partnership with the Settlement School, is the first of its kind for KSDAR.

Earnings from the KSDAR “Gift of Reading” Endowment will support reading programs for children and adults. KSDAR is committed to steadily increasing the size of the endowment so that the income produced will help many children receive the gift of reading.

Sharon is asking every Kentucky Daughter to consider making a contribution to this special fund. “I am encouraging daughters to make a gift in honor of a special person who taught them to read. I’m also asking them to commit to growing this fund for the future — because support of education is a vital part of who we are as Daughters,” she said.
