A Message to Our Donors

Since the earliest times, Hindman Settlement School has relied on the generosity of many individual friends and donors to support its work. Our founders were forward-thinking: they started the Settlement School's endowment in 1910! Although we do have an endowment, the income it produces only funds about one-third of our annual expenses. We raise the rest each year through a combination of individual gifts, grants and fees for services.

Thanks to our strong network of supporters and contributors, the Settlement School has continued to provide educational and service opportunities for people of the mountains for more than 100 years. To be effective over the next 100 years, we will need the continued support of our many friends.

We know there are many good causes you can donate to and recognize the importance of being good stewards of the resources you entrust to us. The Settlement School adheres to the Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice set forth by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Donor Bill of Rights developed by the American Association of Fundraising Council, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), AFP and others.

We maintain a Gift Acceptance Policy to guide decisions relating to receiving and recording gifts. All monetary gifts are acknowledged with a receipt for tax purposes. Donors who wish to remain anonymous should specify this when making a donation. We will still receipt the gift but will omit your name from Donor Reports.

If you have questions or need assistance, call or e-mail our Development Director. The Settlement School can assist you with transferring gifts of stock or real estate, or with establishing a fund in memory of a loved one. We are also happy to assist you with including the Settlement School in your will.
